The blog that I chose to read from was called the Social Collective. This is a popular blog that was created as a “Forward thinking Social Media Conference.” Their logo for social Collective 2010 is “Be it, Live it, Join it“. There are many benefits to reading and gaining knowledge from other Public Relations blogs. One of the posts that I read on Social Collective’s blog broke some of the most well-known myths about public speaking. He compiled his post in a humorous nature making it even more enjoyable to read. One of his tips that stuck out to me was not to start off your speech with a joke. And I can’t agree more. It has become such a cliché thing to start off public speaking engagements with a joke, and often times it could not make it more awkward. Some of the posts that you may come across on public relations blogs may seem useless or somewhat of a waste of time to read, but they really allow you to understand different point of views and gain knowledge about your specific career. There is a lot of information out there, it is just important to be able to decipher what information is right or wrong, what is true or false. Another one of the articles that I discovered on this specific blog spoke about using social media in the professional world to bring more publicity to your company. This article discussed the importance of understanding what you are trying to achieve if you are entering the social media world with your organization. It is important to commit whole heartedly as a company, or your social media tactics will not be successful. It is important to have your employees on board and make sure everyone is aware of the different outlets you plan to use. Social media is more relevant now than ever and if you have the guts to enter in as an organization, your company will benefit from it. As a PR student or professional, it is important to read up on different public relations blogs because you are able to see first-hand what is going on in the PR world. You are able to gain knowledge from other professionals who have been in the industry longer than you. You are also able to get creative ideas from other people who may benefit your company or mission. Another benefit to reading blogs is gaining relationships with other people, and networking at a whole new level. There are many benefits that you can grow from… so go on, start clicking, and enter into the world of PR blogging.
